Pedro Brito is a marine biologist (Ph.D. in Marine Sciences), with scientific interests focused on the study of emerging contaminants in marine environments. The study of biogeochemistry and the interaction of pollutants in aquatic ecosystems, with a focus in recent years on rare earth elements, have been the main areas of research developed. He has participated in several national and foreign R&D projects and has supervised undergraduate and Master’s student projects. He has been a specialist in inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for about 25 years, authoring more than 30 articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters. He is a researcher at the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), at the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) and a technical expert at the Portuguese Accreditation Institute (IPAC), for the NP EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories).
